I’ve been a backup girl in drag racing for over a decade, but my connection to the track started long before that. I spent much of my childhood at the race track, and when my dad began racing professionally, I naturally stepped into BUG duties. What started as family support quickly became a lifelong passion.

 

Over the years, I’ve had the privilege of working with many racers, including multiple teams in the NHRA. While the role may look glamorous from the outside, the heart of being a backup girl is far deeper. My favorite part of the job is the connections we build. Conversation is the catalyst for strong relationships, and in racing, those relationships are everything especially when it comes to networking, trust, and team success.

 

Drag racing is special to me because no two experiences are ever the same. There’s nothing quite like being surrounded by some of the fastest machines on the planet and feeling the energy that only a race track can offer. Backup girls have a front-row seat to the action, and our role is an important part of a driver’s success on and off the track.

No matter who I’m backing or what I’m wearing, the job remains the same. The race track will always be my favorite place to be.

 

My hope is that women continue to play a more integral role in a sport that originated as male-dominated, and that young women everywhere can look up to those who serve as ambassadors for drag racing…both on the starting line and beyond it.
